3 kitchen essentials for lazy cooks

hello,

When I first decided I wanted to eat more healthily, my biggest issue was that I didn’t know how or where to start. When it came to cooking I used to think of myself as quite a lazy cook. So I wanted some kitchen essentials that would make cooking as easy as possible.

I came across some great clean eating blogs to help me get started, and I restocked my cupboards and filled up my spice and herb drawer. I learned the basics and got going.

This journey wouldn’t have been possible without these three pieces of equipment. They helped me get better at cooking (and actually enjoy it!) and stick with healthy eating.

What is best for cooking healthy food?

The best cooking equipment will really be determined by you specifically and what works for you. However, these three pieces of equipment are things I couldn’t live without. Sounds a bit dramatic right? But these are seriously time-saving and take the excuse out of making healthy dinners, batch cooking, and healthy homemade snacks.

What are healthy kitchen tools?

These are my top three kitchen appliances that make healthy cooking quick and easy:

Slow cooker / Crockpot

This is the ultimate time-saver. And if you want to make use of it for batch cooking you can choose from a variety of sizes so you can double up what you’re cooking, and divide it into portions for future meals.

There are so many things you can make in the slow cooker, not just stews. But the best bit is it’s minimal prep and it’s all done for you. Chop up veg and any meat, pop it in the slow cooker with the recommended amount of liquid/stock and it’s ready for you by the end of the day!

Make sure to follow instructions for each specific meal as recommended for the slow cooker temperature and liquid/stock required.

Food processor

A food processor has been one of my best investments. Knowing what I’m like with buying equipment, (using it once, then leaving it to gather dust at the back of a cupboard) I decided it was best to start with a cheap one, so I got a Kenwood food processor and separate blender for around £40.

It’s perfect for blending soups and making homemade sauces like Pesto for pasta, and my favourite is using it to make energy balls and nut butter.

Blender

As above I was worried at first I would use this blender once and then discard it to the back of the cupboard. However, I didn’t and I enjoy using it most days to blend soups or make tasty nutritious smoothies.

Looking at buying more equipment? Slow cookers, food processors, and blenders have been used for many years in homes and by chefs to help create homemade sauces, smoothies, meals, soups, and nutritious meals and snacks.

Being time short, and sometimes just not feeling like cooking, these three items have kept me eating healthy for years. There’s also nothing better than coming home from work, walking through the door, and smelling a delicious dinner waiting for you!
